Black Bean Brownies

1 15-oz. can black beans, drained well, or 1 1/2 cups cooked beans
1⁄3 cup maple syrup
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1⁄4 cup almond or peanut butter
1 tablespoon flax seed meal (ground flax seeds)
3 tablespoons rolled oats
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1⁄4 cup dark chocolate chips (to press on top)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly oil an 8 by 8 baking pan.
Place all ingredients except the chocolate chips in a food processor and blend until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips. Transfer to the baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting and serving. These firm up a bit more when refrigerated.
